Sandwell’s Safer 6 campaign is back |
Sandwell’s annual Safer 6 community safety partnership campaign launches on 31 October and runs until 11 December.
Media are invited to the launch event and photo opportunity taking place at Asda, Cape Hill, Smethwick on Monday 31 October, 11:00am – 2:00pm during which Sandwell Council and partners will be raising awareness of anti-social behaviour in Smethwick. This will include safety advice for local residents and businesses as well as more information on where they can receive support from in Sandwell if affected by crime or anti-social behaviour. Other events to take place during Week 1 are a Smethwick Walkabout on Tuesday 1 November, a Hate Crime Information Stand at Thimblemill Library on Wednesday 2 November and the Sandwell Hate Crime Policy Jam at the West Bromwich African Caribbean Resource Centre on Friday 4 November. Safer 6 builds on work that takes place day in, day out between Safer Sandwell Partnership organisations, helping to raise awareness, tackle people’s concerns and promote services that are available to help and support people. Sandwell Council leads the campaign with support from West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service and a wide range of partner organisations. Each week will have a focus on a specific town. Week 1: Smethwick Week 2: Tipton Week 3: Oldbury Week 4: Wednesbury Week 5: West Bromwich Week 6: Rowley Regis Go to www.sandwell.gov.uk/safer6 to find out more about activities in your town and follow #Safer6 on Twitter and Instagram. Councillor Danny Millard, cabinet member for communities, said: “The Safer 6 campaign is simple, it’s about helping people to stay safe and stay healthy. Crime and anti-social behaviour can be hugely detrimental to people’s lives, so it’s vital we respond and do all we can to help people stay safe and get any support they may need. People deserve to feel safe where they live and work. “My thanks go to the Police as well as all the other many partner organisations and council services that help run this campaign but more importantly help to keep us all safe throughout the year. This campaign, whether online or through activities in our towns, highlights the support available so I would strongly encourage people to get involved and find out more.” Residents are urged to report any instance of anti-social behaviour by contacting West Midlands Police through their LiveChat facility at www.west-midlands.police.uk or, for those not online, call 101. Anti-social behaviour can also be reported to Sandwell Council online at www.sandwell.gov.uk/asb or by calling 0121 368 1166 for those not online. |
