Annual Report 2017-2018
Each year the Sandwell Safeguarding Adults Board produces an Annual Report to enable you to see what work we have been doing to keep people safe. We work with partner agencies and our lay members to produce the report.
The report then has to be agreed at the board and scrutinised by elected members.

A multi-agency prevention strategy supporting Safeguarding Adults in Sandwell
The Care Act 2014 and Adult Social Care legislation require local authorities and partner agencies to have a greater role in preventing abuse and neglect. The Prevention Strategy brings together current preventative work. The Strategy aims to improve leadership and action to prevent abuse and neglect of adults in Sandwell, whilst also promoting maximum independence for individuals.

Sandwell Safeguarding Adults Board Learning and Development Strategy
Central to effective adult safeguarding is a competent and well trained workforce. The SAB are committed to ensuring the workforce is competent and confident to carry out their responsibilities to safeguard adults at risk. This multi-agency learning and development strategy is designed to support the development of best practice in adult safeguarding work and to ensure that people working with adults at risk across all sectors are able to meet the standards outlined in the statutory safeguarding duties introduced under the Care Act 2014.

Safeguarding Adults Reviews (SARs)
The Care Act 2014 introduced statutory Safeguarding Adult’s Reviews (previously known as Serious Case Reviews), and mandates when they must be arranged. The act also gives Safeguarding Adult Boards (SABs) flexibility to choose a proportionate methodology.
The prime purpose of a Safeguarding Adult Review is for agencies and individuals to learn lessons to improve the way in which they work both individually and collectively to safeguard and promote the welfare of adults with care and support needs.
Sandwell Safeguarding Adult’s Board (SSAB) extends its appreciation to the West Midlands Adult Safeguarding SAR Guidance which is referenced throughout this document.
Strategic Plan
The Strategic Plan is a 3 year plan that enables the board to identify and set its priorities for each year . This plan also incorporates an agreed Prevention of Violence and Exploitation theme “Support victims of violence and exploitation and enable their recovery” developed in conjunction with the Police, Health & Wellbeing Board, Community Safety Partnership, Domestic Abuse Strategic Partnership and the Sandwell Safeguarding Children Board.
